Courtney Mroch was born in Denver, Colorado, on September 14, 1970. In 1992, she graduated from the University of Arizona with a B.A. in Communications.
However, she believes her life really began when her husband was offered a job in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1999. He, in turn, offered her a deal: agree to leave the home they'd created in her adopted hometown of Phoenix, Arizona, and he'd let her stay home and write. It was a deal she couldn't refuse. She quit her job as a Bankruptcy paralegal and never looked back.
She had aspired to be a novelist, and while she still hopes to publish more books some day, she ended up becoming something she hadn't intended but absolutely adores being: a blogger.
In 2006, she started blogging first in the Pets section, then in the Marriage section, of Families.com. Within two years she was averaging 50,000 hits per month. After racking up over a half million hits total, failing health prompted her to quit in 2008, shortly before she was diagnosed with Stage 2 B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Cancer was both the scariest and most amazing thing to ever happen to her. She realized what was most important to her. As soon as her health would allow, she set her sights on pursuing her passions with renewed focus and vigor.
Among the things Courtney decided to keep pursuing was her writing. She had long had an idea for Haunt Jaunts, a travel guide for restless spirits, based on her travels with her husband to haunted places. She decided it would make a good basis for a blog, as well as a good "get off the couch" project to keep her motivated and life-goal oriented as she endured cancer treatments.
That was the start of her blogging, but not the end. These days she maintains three blogs. She's:
- The Director of Paranormal Tourism for Haunt Jaunts, a travel blog for restless spirits
- A Test Subject for the SAHW Experiment, where she shares lessons learned about love, friendship, faith and self during her life as a childfree stay-at-home wife.
- A Survivor Wannabe for Alien Invasion Zombie Apocalypse (AIZA) Fitness, which chronicles her adventures to get fit, keep healthy, and stay alive.
She still writes fiction, and since 1999 has received 18 writing awards, including winning Jane's Stories Bite Size Review Contest and First Place in the 2010 Writers' Journal Fiction Contest. Her travel articles have appeared in TAPS Paramagazine and Duluth Superior Magazine.
In addition to writing and blogging, she's an avid tennis player, and loves travel, and photography and film making. Most of all she enjoys spending time with those who mean the most to her: her husband, Wayne Pryor, and their three fur kids, Murphy (a bluetick coonhound/Australian cattle dog mix), Mr. Meow (a Nebelung), and Tabby (a tabby cat). She currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee.
